Dreaming in the Land of the Unexpected

Dream in the land of unexpected

I was born in a land of dreams. A land so rich, so full of promise, yet so quietly waiting.

Our children will dream long after we are gone… for another 50 years, 100 years, as the sun rises and sets over this blessed soil.

Thirty years ago, I dreamed of good roads, of clean water flowing into our homes, of electricity lighting our nights. Simple things that every community deserves.

Many leaders came and went, speaking big words, making grand promises… but my village remains unchanged, still the same as when I was a boy growing up in the 80s.

My father told me stories of the life in the 60s. When the roads I now call bush tracks were once proud highways. The town, once filled with hopeful faces in decent clothes, locals and expats alike, now feels weighed down by neglect…

A place where laziness and greed seem to grow, where dreams fade into filth.

Still, I will continue to dream. I will continue to live in this land that the Lord has given me.

A land of mountains, rivers, and people with hearts strong as the earth itself.

I may be small, but I will do what little I can…

To lift my community, to plant seeds of hope in young minds, to stand tall even when my heart bleeds for my country.

Papua New Guinea… once a proud pearl of the Pacific, now too often handed over to selfish hands.

The wealth of our land flows into private banks while our people remain in struggle.

But no power can take away my land, my spirit, my people, and my identity.

Today, we mark 50 years of dreaming.

Let us not stop dreaming.

Let us not stop believing.

Happy 50th Independence Anniversary to All the Good Citizens of Papua New Guinea!

May God continue to bless Papua New Guinea.
