The Secretary for Education Dr. Uke Kombra has explained that there wasn’t any cut to salaries for teachers and public servants last week – Pay 21.

This is in response to widespread media reports about teachers and public servants in education complaining about certain amounts of money that were deducted from their salaries last week.

Dr. Kombra said that the payment of the 3 percent Consumer Price Index (CPI) was not paid in a lump sum but over a couple of fortnights.

He said, the last ‘backdated’ payment was made two fortnights ago on Pay 21 on October 9 and last fortnight on October 23, payment of normal salaries began.

Therefore, teachers and public servants would have received their base salary for 2018, which includes the 3% increment.

Kombra further advises teachers and public servants to check with their Payroll Divisions or Sections if they notice any unusual deductions from their salaries.
