Papua New Guinea Education Partnership Compact 2025-2028: Transforming Schools with 1-6-6 Reform
𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐮𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭
A significant milestone in Papua New Guinea’s education sector was achieved today with the official signing of the 𝐏𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 at the Holiday Inn, Port Moresby.
This initiative, covering the 2025-2028 period, aims to drive the full rollout of the 1-6-6 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦, transforming the country’s education system.
The event commenced with a welcome and overview by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢 , Deputy Secretary – Schools Directorate & GPE Focal Point at the National Department of Education (NDoE).
Representatives from key development partners, including 𝐌𝐫. 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐨𝐤𝐚 , Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), highlighted the significance of this collaborative effort in improving access, quality, and equity in education.
The signing ceremony, attended by government officials, international partners, and civil society organizations, marks the commitment of multiple stakeholders towards enhancing teacher training, curriculum development, infrastructure expansion, and data-driven education planning.
The reform will ensure better learning environments, particularly for girls and marginalized communities, aligning with Papua New Guinea’s long-term education vision.
In his keynote remarks, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐔𝐤𝐞 𝐊𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, 𝐎𝐁𝐄, Secretary for Education, emphasized the transformative impact of the 1-6-6 reform in addressing structural barriers and improving learning outcomes.
This landmark agreement, supported by Global Partnership for Education (hashtagGPE), hashtagUNICEF, hashtagJICA, and other stakeholders, represents a major step toward achieving universal, inclusive, and quality education in Papua New Guinea.
The event concluded with a photo session and networking opportunities, reinforcing the collaborative commitment to education transformation.
