For Kumuls and Orchid. History In The Making For PNG Rugby League!
In my living memory, I don’t remember a married couple playing rugby league together and both representing Papua New Guinea in the national colors on a same day, let alone siblings and other blood relatives. But in this years PM 13 match between Papua New Guinea and Australia it is different, as we have a couple donning the national colors to play against Australia.
Brendon Nima and Belinda Gwasamun are a married couple from Chimbu with a child and Brendon is in the men’s PNGs Prime Ministers 13 team and Belinda is in the PNG Orchids woman team that will take on Australia PM 13 men and Australian Jailaroos woman in Australia tomorrow.
Let’s give our ladies the opportunity and freedom to explore and be who they are in areas they are competent in. The best will come out of them if only we give them the liberty and provide them the necessary support they need to be who they want to be.
Congratulations to both Brendon and Belinda on representing Papua New Guinea and can’t wait to see them and their respective teams take on the Australians tomorrow and wish them all the best.
