5 Million Kina Missing without a trace. 2025 Budget Neglect on Hiri Koiari District. MP Hon. Keith Iduhu Voices Deep Sadness Over Unfair Allocation Jeopardizing District Development of the new district.
Hiri Koiari MP Keith Iduhu Expresses Deep Sadness Over 2025 Budget Neglect
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – June 2025
In an emotional speech, Mr. Iduhu said the government’s decision to leave out Hiri Koiari from this year’s budget was unfair and a betrayal of the people who have waited for development for many years.
No Funds in 2025 Budget
In 2024, the government had promised support for new districts like Hiri Koiari, giving K35 million for development. That money was expected to help build basic services like schools, clinics, and roads.
However, in the 2025 budget, Hiri Koiari received zero allocation. Not a single kina was set aside to continue the work that had started. Mr. Iduhu called this a major setback for the people of his district.
“Zero Means Broken Promises”
MP Iduhu told Parliament that getting zero funds shows that the government has forgotten about his people. He said it is hard to understand why a district that supports the country’s economy would be ignored.
Hiri Koiari is home to important national infrastructure, including power stations, water supply, and part of the LNG pipeline. Yet, the MP said the people still lack basic services.
“We are not asking for anything extra. We are just asking for our fair share,” he said.
Is the Budget Fair?
Mr. Iduhu asked an important question: “Is this fair?”
He told Parliament that budget decisions should be based on fairness and need, not on politics or personal interest. He said that when some districts receive large amounts and others get nothing, it sends the wrong message to the people.
A Call for Common Sense
The Hiri Koiari MP said this issue is not about politics. It’s about common sense and doing what is right for the people. He urged the government to reconsider the budget and make sure every district gets proper support.
“Let us not forget the people who are waiting for help. Let us not punish districts that are trying to grow,” Mr. Iduhu said.
Hope for Change
Even though he is disappointed, Mr. Iduhu ended his speech with hope. He asked fellow leaders in Parliament to listen and do what is right. He believes it is still possible to fix the problem and make sure Hiri Koiari gets the help it needs.
