MEDIA RELEASE, SUNDAY 27, OCTOBER 2019:

Prime Minister James Marape would like to dispel fake news that NEC has deliberated on appointment of Police Commissioner.
“In a contemporary world of real time transmission of messages, citizens are encouraged to not jump to conclusions quickly on social media propagated fake news”. PM Marape
“Recently there have been misinformation that cabinet had deliberated on Police Commissioner’s appointment which is completely false. Facebook is not the forum of everyday correct accountable reports and the public is discouraged from taking everything from Facebook as gospel truth”. PM Marape says.
On the police commissioners status , the Prime Minister says that the process of funneling names of three top applicants are on foot, and I can’t preempt the outcome. Myself as Prime Minister, neither the Minister for Police have any great role in managing the processes.
The country must know that selection processes take time, which includes vetting and exchanges between department of personnel management and Public Services Commissions.
What ever the short list of three names that comes to cabinet from as many as those that applied will be the one my cabinet will pick from. Police Commissioner is one of the most important appointments in light of our government’s agenda to reform the police hence we will take seriously all considerations after the selection processes sends three names to cabinet.
