Hon. Bryan Kramer challenges the notion of stability in PNG politics amidst a potential vote of no confidence against PM Marape in a response to Hom. Paitaโs press statement.
By Hon. Bryan Kramer: Tue April 8 2025Our Pati Leader, Hon. Paita, has issued a press statement reaffirms Our Patiโs unwavering support for the Pangu-led Government and PM Marape, ahead of impending vote of no confidence (VoNC).โThis is no time for political instability โ it is a time for nation-building during a challenging period of our nationโs history,โ said Paita, who also serves as Minister for Mining and Special Projects.Paita added:ย โWhy does stability matter? Our Patiโs own experience have shown that political instability comes at high cost for PNG โ especially when the nation needs unity above all else. It erodes investors confidence, delays major projects, and disrupts governance.ย Countries like Singapore, Rwanda, and Fiji have thrived by prioritizing stable leadership and policy consistency. PNG must do the same.โ๐ ๐ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ:Thatโs quite amusing โ considering many of these same individuals were, just months ago, touring the country calling for change, demanding for a new PM, and even insisting they be nominated as alternate PM.Now, suddenly, they have discovered the gospel of โstability.โLetโs be honest: PNG hasnโt suffered from instability โ it has suffered from stupidity and corruption.๐ช๐ต๐ ๐ฐ๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐บ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐?Because stability favour the corrupt and the incompetent. As ChatGPT rightly puts it:โCorrupt governments thrive off a false sense of stability โ where power remains unchallenged, systems are locked down, and the appearance of order hides deep dysfunctions.โMeanwhile, good governance is dynamic โ it welcomes accountability, demands transparency, and embraces reform. These are the principles that corruption fears most.Countries like Fiji, Rwanda, and Singapore didnโt rise by clinging to artificial โstabilityโ โ they progressed by promoting good governance, cracking down on corruption, ensuring competent leadership, and demanding accountability. So when they say:โChanging leaders or policies will destabilize the country,โWhat they are really saying is:โLetโs maintain the status quo, so we can keep stealing, misusing public funds, and mismanaging the countryโs future โ without consequence.โ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ:If youโve already proven yourself untrustworthy, and continue to prioritize political privilege and enrichment over the people, the least you can do is remain silent โ until you earned back the public trust. If there is any history being made โ itโs a party with 14 MPs being rewarded with just one ministerial portfolio.Correction: That number is now 13 MPs, after the Hon Governor of Simbu officially joined the Opposition cacaus this morning. In contrast, the URP โ with just 11 MPs, is holding 6 ministerial portfolios. Where the convention or practice in the past has been, a party up to 3 MPs is rewarded with 1 Ministry; 6 MPs 2 Ministries and so forth, certainly never 14 MPs with 1 Ministry.
