To Prime Minister James Marape – From The People Of Papua New Guinea
To Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea – Hon. James Marape
From the Heart of a Wounded Nation – The People of Papua New Guinea
O leader of our land, where are you now? We once lit candles in your name. We once whispered your promises like prayer. We painted your face on our banners, Shouted Take Back PNG! with fire in our lungs Because we believed. Oh, we believed.
You were our Moses, our David, our Daniel — You said God had called you. We wept with joy, For the hungry would eat, The jobless would rise, The motherless would be comforted.
But now we weep not with joy — But with grief.
You promised us milk and honey —
But gave us numbers and noise. K111 billion GDP? What does that feed? Our children eat despair. Our fathers count coins they do not have. Our gardens grow wild while we import rice Like beggars in Eden. We are rich, yet poorer than ever.
You promised us justice —
Yet thieves drink from golden cups While our mothers boil water for dinner, Praying the smell will quiet the babies. ICAC sleeps. The corrupt dance. And when we raise our voices, You call us “terrorists”? You use our laws to silence our pain.
You promised us peace —
But blood flows in Hela. Smoke rises in Enga. Daughters scream into the night While their rapists walk free. We cry to your office, But you call it fake news. Our tears, you say, are “political.” Our deaths are dismissed.
You promised us democracy —
But you tore down its pillars with your own hands. Section 145 was not just ink on paper — It was the breath of accountability. Now, you rule with force and fear, Not consent. Is this the “Christian nation” you spoke of? Where God is used, But never heard?
Mr. Prime Minister — hear our cry. We do not hate you. We remember your promise. But promise without purpose is poison. Leadership without humility is tyranny. And hope, once betrayed, becomes a storm.
You asked us to believe. Now we ask you: Will you lead with truth — Or fall into the silence of forgotten leaders?
We are not the enemy. We are the people. We are the soul of this land. From Sepik to Southern Highlands, From the dusty streets of Moresby to the singing shores of Milne Bay — We are rising. Not with weapons, but with words. Not with hate, but with heartbreak.
And still, we hope.
Take back PNG — But this time, Take it back from greed. Take it back from silence. Take it back from fear.
Yours not in anger, but in anguish, The People of Papua New Guinea
