WEST PAPUA NEWS TODAY – Thousands of students in Wamena Peaceful Demonstrations Against Racist Indonesian Teachers Turned into Riot and Chaotic.

Today, 23 September 2019, thousands of students in Wamena took to the streets to reject the racist actions of their teacher against Papuan students.
Peaceful demonstrations became chaotic and riot when they were shot by joint Indonesian forces from the army, police and Mobile Brigade Corps ( BRIMOB)
Some students were shot and several buildings were burned.

Violence has escalated in Wamena in the central highlands of the West Papua. Several high school students and local people have been shot by Indonesian security forces. Protesters have also set buildings on fire. This is the latest in the waves of pro-independence protests which began last month.

  1. Can PNG do something about it as a big brother within the Melanesian brotherhood? If smaller countries like the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu try to bring this contentious issue to the attention of the international community, obviously a helping from a big brother would probably add a step further. Our very own kind have been suffering for too long before our very eyes and yet we pretend to admit it’s seriousness! What is PNG afraid of???…

    1. Tapia Dam, you are making a great point here. You are speaking the hearts and minds of the majority of the Papua New Guineans. However, the decision to bring it to the attention of the international community is the responsibility of our mandated leaders.
