A Call for Help: Conjoined Twins Born Near PNG’s First Missionary Site Need Urgent Medical Assistance Abroad
📰 Summary News Report
Date: November 2025
Byline: PapuaNiugini.org News Desk
In a moving story unfolding in Papua New Guinea, conjoined twins Tom and Sawong were born on October 9, 2025, just a short distance from the historic site where the first German missionaries brought Christianity to the country in 1886. Now, 29 days old, the twins face a life-threatening challenge — one of them, Tom, suffers from a heart defect and both rely on supplementary oxygen.
Efforts are currently underway to secure international medical support for their separation and survival. While communication with a hospital in Germany is progressing, time is running short. The family and support network, led by Hubert Namani, are appealing to hospitals and specialists worldwide — in Asia, Europe, and America — to urgently assist in providing medical care or facilitating their transfer abroad.
“This is not just a plea but a call for support, compassion, and action,” said Namani. “Let’s unite to give Tom and Sawong the chance they deserve.”
