Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – In a significant move to enhance the educational prospects of its youth, the government of Papua New Guinea has sent five exceptional students from its National Schools of Excellence to Nadi, Fiji, for advanced pilot training at the esteemed Advanced Aviation Training institute. The students departed on Saturday, representing the pinnacle of academic achievement in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The selected students include Christopher Willie from the Port Moresby National School of Excellence, Esther Philip from Kerevat National School of Excellence, Maxine Mokae from Sogeri National School of Excellence, Pombra Koi from Aiyura National School of Excellence, and Talin Watch from Wawin National School of Excellence. These talented individuals were chosen based on their outstanding academic performance and potential in the STEM disciplines.

This initiative is part of a broader government scholarship program aimed at nurturing the next generation of leaders in STEM fields. In total, 170 students have been granted the opportunity to study abroad under this scholarship scheme, reflecting a robust commitment to fostering talent and innovation within the nation. The international quota of students includes 76 heading to the United States, 55 to China, 30 to India, and 5 to Fiji, showcasing a diverse range of educational experiences across different cultural and academic landscapes.

The decision to send students for pilot training is a strategic effort to address the growing need for skilled professionals in aviation and related fields, which are crucial for the development of Papua New Guinea’s economy.
