Retired General Jerry Singirok Arrested for Alleged Violations of Capital Markets Act – Papua New Guinea
Retired General Jerry Singirok has been arrested by Taskforce Shield for allegedly breaching the Capital Markets Act of 2015.
He faces three charges related to the act, which governs capital market infrastructures, the licensing of market intermediaries, and the regulation of securities, bonds, and derivatives issuances.
The charges relates to his role as a Trustee and Fund Manager for the Pacific Balanced Fund (PBF).
He allegedly continued in these roles even after the revocation of the Capital Market License due to misconduct.
The charges include failing to hand over directorship and acting in these capacities without authorization.
Singirok has denied all charges, claiming he has been wrongfully accused and intends to fight the allegations. He was released on a K6,000 bail.
A Book Written by Jerry Singirok, “A Matter of Conscience: Operation Rausim Kwik”
Twenty years on from the abrupt ending of his military career, Jerry Singirok has had much time to ruminate on the past.
Another strength of his manuscript is, in my view, the extent to which he does stand back and reflect, often quite critically, about his own decisions, as well as more broadly about politics, leadership, corruption, faith, family and many other facets of public and personal life in Papua New Guinea.
While coverage of the Sandline Affair and his military deployments to Bougainville may be action action-packed, it is also a thoughtful work.
While still largely remembered for his act of defiance and rebellion, Singirok’s actions also heralded the beginning of the Bougainville Peace Process.
The book will be of considerable interest to many readers, and not just for those with a Pacific focus.
