Time For Change: A Call For Fairer Relations Between Papua New Guinea And Australia

By Dr Lino Tom

Minister for Health and Wabag MP

This is an insult to our intelligence and our people! Australia’s populist sport diplomacy appeal amidst the increasing tensions in regional Geopolitics is ludicrous! If you really care about the plight of our nation, do visa on arrival like what China is doing! Trade is one sided in your favor!

All illegal money from Papua New Guinea are making their way to Australia “freely” whilst you block your doors to genuine hard working Papua New Guinea people who want to enter Australia through a “RESTRICTIVE VISA POLICY”! You can’t allow trade by imposing very high quarantine requirements! Labor markets are discriminatively restrictive towards Papua New Guinea whilst the rest of the Pacific are having easy access to Australia. This discrimination needs to stop.

We don’t need a 18th team in NRL! We already support Australian teams! It’s like the Gladiatorial Games or “Munera” of the Roman Empires where the Roman authorities used to distract and appease the populace from the “REAL” issues facing them.

Australia needs to really treat us as their closest neighbor with family ties through the Torres Straits. We were a single continent before the land bridge (Pleistocene Epoch) was flooded some thousands of years back and now the GAP IS WIDENED MORE by your unfriendly and discriminatory foreign policy!

It’s time Papua New Guinea rethinks its foreign policy! AID has never made any nation grow. Bilateral trade and free trade; especially free labor market will help us develop! Please help us GROW! We can’t be seen year in year out receiving AID from you. The trade IMBALANCE is enormous in your favor. Do something about it!
