The Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Pat Conroy, says Australia is working hard to be Papua New Guinea's partner of choice on all matters.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese today became the first foreign leader to address Papua New Guinea's parliament.
China has also been working to develop ties with Papua New Guinea, including funding a new military hospital.
Mr Conroy says his government is working to be the best neighbour possible.
