Another exceptional PNG woman leader makes her mark in the mining and petroleum industry as more women take up leadership roles in recent times
The Papua New Guinea Chamber of Mines and Petroleum has recently announced the appointment of Ms. Gretel Orake as its new Policy Manager.
This is a significant move that showcases the Chamber's ongoing to engage with the government and other stakeholders in the development of policies that will benefit the country and all stakeholders.
Ms. Orake will lead the Chamber's engagement with the government and stakeholders in developing policies, particularly in the research and collation of data to inform constructive dialogue and support policy formulation.
Anthony Smaré, the President of the Chamber, expressed his support for Ms. Orake's appointment and highlighted her extensive experience, saying,

Ms. Gretel Orake, brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having earned a Master of Science and Environmental Law from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Papua New Guinea.
She has spent over 23 years working in mining and environmental sustainability, playing instrumental roles mainly in the regulatory and planning of mining and environmental matters in Papua New Guinea.
Her previous roles include working as Project Manager-Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency for UNDP, Manager of Technical Assesments at PNG MRA, and Senior Compliance & Enforcement Officer at, Environment Division
Department of Environment & Conservation.
According to Mr. Smaré, Ms. Orake's appointment is part of the Chamber's ongoing restructuring and reorganization.
The PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum is a non-profit, peak industry association that represents the interests of the mining and petroleum industry and associated industries in Papua New Guinea.
