Unitech Students in Trouble After Public Drinking
Lae, Papua New Guinea – It’s been a rough start to the semester for 14 students from the University of Technology (Unitech). Just two weeks into the new academic year, these students found themselves in court after being arrested for drinking in public.
On March 3rd, the students appeared before Magistrate Bingtau, where they admitted to drinking alcohol right outside the university gate. The Magistrate expressed his disappointment, reminding them that their behavior didn’t reflect well on future leaders and the sacrifices their families make for their education.
Each student was fined K4,000, which they had to pay immediately to avoid a two-year prison sentence with hard labor at Buimo Correctional Service. According to reports, one of the students was visibly upset as they faced the consequences of their actions.
This incident serves as a tough lesson for the students involved, potentially disrupting their studies and future prospects.
