By EHP Governor’s News Page | 10-31-19.
A very high level delegation from the Fujian Provincial Government of China will visit Eastern Highlands Province tomorrow, Friday 1st of November. The delegation will be led by Fujian Province Vice-Governor Honorable Ms. Guo Ningning.
Since the formal establishment of the Sister Provincial Relationship Bilateral Relationship with the Fujian Provincial Government of China in May 2000.
There has been no visit to Eastern Highlands Province by the Government of Fujian Province at Vice Governor or Governor Level as all other visits were done by senior government officials below the Governor level.
Considering China’s status in the world as the second biggest economy of 200 to 300 billion in USD, the visit by the Vice Governor is a powerful delegation and will be of great importance for development of Eastern Highlands province into the future.
This high level visit to the province tomorrow will have government to government discussion on strengthening of exchanges and cooperation agreement in areas of agriculture, education, culture, trade and investment.
A draft agreement which is already in place and was supposed to be signed during APEC Meeting last year 2018 but was postponed until later date. It will be reviewed and finalized during this official meet.
Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu, Provincial Executive Council members, TMT and PMT will receive the high level delegation from China tomorrow at the airport.
They will be here in the province for 2 days before they return back to Fujian Province, in China.

China is fast becoming the global leader in all aspects and its highly benefitual for Eastern Highlands and PNG as a whole to forge such a close relationship with one of its highly developed province (Fujian).
Before we go on applauding the Fujian delegation let’s be mindful of China’s heavy handed, aggressive and bullying tactics in the world today especially in the Asia Pacific region under its Belt and Road Project. Perhaps it was for EHP’s good that the sister city relationship established over twenty years ago was never given prominence or acted upon. Why the sudden interest NOW to send such a high profile delegation! Look at all the failed Chinese projects in PNG – the Lae Tidal Basin, Madang’s PMIZ and the recent environmental damage done by the Chinese owned mine at Basamuk Bay in Madang. China is using every possible relationship it has to enhance its hidden agendas so be extremely careful EHP…
