FUNERAL ARRANGEMENT for Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.

SLIGHT CHANGES TO THE FUNERAL ARRANGEMENT

The National Organizing Committee has made several changes to the final funeral arrangements and program for the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

The mourning period began yesterday evening at 6 pm by the Motu Koita people, while the Central and Gulf people will visit the national ‘haus-krai’ at the Sir John Guise Stadium today, (Tuesday 2nd March 2021).

The people of Northern, Milne-Bay, and Western will visit the haus-krai on Wednesday the 03rd of March 2021.

The people of East and West New Britain and New Ireland province and their leaders will visit the haus-krai on Thursday the 4th of March, while Manus, Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Enga will visit the haus-krai on Friday the 5th of March.

The people of Simbu and the Eastern Highlands and their leaders will visit the haus=krai on Saturday 06th March, while Jiwaka and Western Highlands will have their turn on Sunday 07th March.

The people of Hela and Southern Highlands will visit the haus-krai on Monday 08th March, while Madang and Morobe will have their turn on Tuesday 09th March.

The people of East and West Sepik Provinces will visit the haus-krai on Wednesday 10th March, before the body is brought to lie in state at the National Parliament on Thursday the 11th of March 2021.

A special Parliamentary Sitting is also scheduled to convene on this day, while a State Funeral Service will be held on Friday 12th of March 2021 at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

The family will take the body home on Saturday 13th of March 2021, before it is flown to Wewak on Sunday 14th March 2021.

East Sepik Provincial Government and Administration have put forward a tentative program which will be discussed further by themselves and the Somare family, and the announcement will be made when an agreement is reached.

The 1st Night of the ‘Haus Krai’ (Mourning House) in Port Moresby, Co-hosted by Prime Minister James Marape and Governor Powes Parkop and the Motu Koitabu people.
