Gamato Arrested and Charged with Official Corruption

Electoral Commissioner Patalius Gamato has been arrested and charged with official corruption after he was brought in for questioning by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Boroko Police Station, in Port Moresby.

This is in relation to election-related matters involving the Southern Highlands Governor’s Seat from 2017.

When asked for a comments after his intial interview with the police, Gamato says he is unable to as it is a matter before the court.

He has been refused bail and Gamato is expected to go to the courts later this afternoon for a bail application.

Contention for the SHP seat has been controversial since 2017.
